Claude Berthiaume Shihan to Peachtree Aikikai Atlanta at Peachtree Aikikai Atlanta

June 22, 2012 at 6pm to June 24, 2012 at 7pm
Berthiaume sensei is one of the best teachers that I've met. Excellent explanations, interesting variations of classic techniques. To have him coming so close and not attend the seminar - there are no excuses for this.See More

"I don't understand. 0.5-2 seconds. At rest 12-20 breaths per minutes. Ki breaths can last over a minute. Upper chest breathing is a sign of emotional distress. Lower lung, or abdominal breathing is calming."

Another way of learning break falls

What I like about this sequence of exercises - they look safe and each next step is just a little bit harder, so you can learn gradually. Also it teaches exactly what I was missing - how to roll your body after you hit the mat with your back hand.video SergeiSee More

Breathing

I've been hearing this advise again and again - synchronize the execution of your technique with your breath. And it does not make any sense for me. People normally breath with regular intervals 0.5-2 sec, depending on the need of oxygen. How can this be synchronized with attacks of your opponent(s)?  In fact I'd prefer to keep my breath as even as possible, which is a part of a state of balance.See More

Notes from David Halprin seminar 09/12/2009

Quasi-quote:"To disarm an opponent is easy. It is hard to do it right"Most notable directions:"Nage - apply your weight when moving uke. Feel uke's weight via his limbs.Uke - don't be too stiff nor too soft. Allow nage to work with your trunk""What may seem as pulling in fact supposed to be leading. If you feel that you have to pull - change technique""The beginning of any technique usually is a very simple movement, but errors on dan tests happen mostly at this phase. So don't skip practicing…See More
